Band Booster Information

Who are the Band Boosters?
Membership in the IHS Band Boosters is open to anyone interested in supporting the Independence High School Marching Patriots. Membership is marked by participation in fundraising and other band activities that support and enhance the performance of the Independence High School Band.

Band Boosters Purpose:
According to our articles of Incorporation, the Boosters shall promote and encourage, in the school and community, instrumental music and other units that enhance the band's performance and other furtherance of each student's musical education and skills by his participation in local, regional, and national competition and non-competition activities.

How We Generate Funds:
We generate funds for the band through fundraising. Our current fundraisers include:
Selling small items at IHS home football games
Cheesecake and Cookie Dough
Sale
Speedway - Both Fall and Spring
Barbecue Sales
Fruit Sale
Flower/Plant Sale

These funds pay for:
Transportation to away games, competitions, and
festivals
School instrument purchases and repairs, equipment
Band camp instruction
Band leadership camp
Guard instructors and supplies
Private Lesson Teachers/Coaches
Miscellaneous expenses

Fundraising Your Account:
To help defray the cost of participation in band, students and parents of the band and color guard can participate in designated fundraising activities which the band gives all or the majority of the profit to you to help fund your account. These may be accumulated from year to year and must be used by the end of the student's senior year. These profits are given for participation in activities designated by the band director and the band booster club.

Your Commitment as a Band Booster:
As a member of the boosters, your contribution of time and talent are valuable to us. As you have heard, the boosters are a big part of what is needed to insure that your child receives the support and materials he or she needs to enhance band performance and further your child's musical education and skills.

Your help is required to make this happen. We ask that at least one parent sign up for at least one event in each category. By working together, the workload is shared and no one is overworked.

In working together to achieve these goals, you will acquire good friendships and share good times with other parents and students. Your participation will also create a community of pride and spirit within the Marching Patriot Band family.

Band Booster Fees:
There is a $10 per person or $20 per couple fee to become a member of the IHS Band Boosters. This fee allows you to have some input in decision making and a vote when electing new officers.

WELCOME  FRESHMAN  PARENTS

From the Band Boosters

The Band Booster officers would like to welcome you to the IHS Band Boosters. The Booster organization is a 501 C(3) non-profit organization, and we are also incorporated. Our role and focus is to support Mr. James and the band program. This support comes in many ways which you will hear about over the next couple of months, so please do not let all the High School Band information overwhelm you at first. Last year was a great year and we are looking forward to an even better year. While all our fundraising efforts to help fund our budget are hot and heavy during the fall and spring, we do ask that you support the program in any way that you can. There is a place and/or position where everyone can serve one way or another. It takes all the parents helping to make it a success! Help is greatly needed in many areas and we will be assigning work areas and asking for volunteers. If you have a particular area of interest where you can serve and support the band, please come and let one of the officers know.

Over the last couple of years, we have focused on improving the communication so that parents are aware of what is going on with the program. Please make every effort to attend the booster meetings, check e-mails and other updates on the band website to assist you in staying up to date on announcements and happenings. The students do not always get home with all the information or they will assume you already know. It is hard to cover everything or answer every question during our first couple of meetings, but we will sure try. Please refer to the website and the handbook that your son/daughter will receive at band camp as your questions are important, so please do not hesitate to e-mail an officer through the website or contact anyone of us at any time. We are looking forward to another great year with the IHS Band and getting to know our new students and parents!

It is the mission of the IHS Band Boosters to nurture a quality band program by providing financial and organizational leadership and support to all ensembles while fostering parental involvement. All band parents are members of the IHS Band Booster Club and a family representative is expected to attend all meetings. The IHS Band Booster Club is a non-profit organization devoted to cultivating the arts at Independence High School.

The IHS Band Boosters meet on the second Tuesday of every month (except July and August) in the Band Room at 7:00 P.M. The August meeting will precede the Parent Preview on Friday, August 11th at 6:00 P.M. in the cafeteria.
